Excellent Replacement for Stock Windshield

This National Cycle VStream Low Windshield was purchased as a replacement for a scratched stock windshield on my '09 Harley Ultra Classic. I was debating whether or not to spend the extra $$$ on something more aerodynamic or save a few bucks by buying an exact replacement of what I already had, and I'm very glad I spent the extra money.

The Good:
* MUCH less wind buffeting on both sides of my head than the stock windshield - moreso than I expected. I didn't realize just how bad my stock windshield was until I installed this one.
* Thicker material is firmer than stock for less vibration at high speed.
* Much easier to talk to my passenger and hear the stereo.
* The light tint is perfect - just enough to cut glare on bright days and not too much to impair my vision at night.

The Not-So-Good:
* The curves on both sides cause a lot of distortion when looking through the windshield.
* The curves also prevented me from re-i nstalling my windshield pockets. The shield angles back sharply on both sides.

Neither of these things were a deal-breaker, but both are worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts:
* The angle and height (10") of this shield puts the slipstream at the same height over my head as the stock shield.
* The curves on both sides "widen" the pocket of calm air around my head by about a foot on each side.
* It is now "Love Bug" season here in Central Florida, which is a unique experience if you've ever ridden here in either May or September. While not perfect, the number of Love Bugs that actually hit me was substantially lower than with my stock shield - and it has been pretty bad this year. On a recent 120-mile trip the entire front of my bike, windshield and top of my helmet was encrusted but I only rarely felt something on my face (which more likely came up from below than around this windshield). This is a true sign of a well-designed windshield.

Overall, this windshield was an excellent purchase. I would buy it again if needed and definitely would recommend it to a friend.

Great, but read before ordering

I ordered this windshield and took it on a 3,000 mile trip around the southeast US in November. It held up very well and provided a lot of wind deflection from my head. There is a little distortion when looking through the bent sides but certainly not distracting or bothersome. It is a little thicker than the stock windshield on my Harley and fit with my T-Bags windshield bags; however, because of the extra thickness I needed to replace the stock windshield bolts for longer bolts (3/4" length worked well).

The other thing you need to know is the pictures on Amazon and on National's website do not accurately reflect the tint colors. The light tint looks transparent (as if not tinted at all). So I had to send it back because I wanted it tinted. I replaced it with the dark tint, which is darker than I would like but better than basically clear. The dark tint is very dark. You can see through it but it is quite dark even in the daytime.
